Predatory journals enter biomedical databases through public funding

Predatory publishing is an international, cross disciplinary threat to the integrity of the scientific system • A worrying number of articles published in predatory journals are indexed in biomedical databases such as PubMed, the free access biomedical database maintained by the National Library of Medicine • Public funding, under open access policies, seems to be the mechanism by which articles are displayed in PubMed. • Providing guidance to publicly funded authors on how to publish their work in legitimate open-access venues will likely stop the wasteful use of public money to cover the fees of predatory journals.

Características y visibilidad de las revistas españolas de ciencias de la salud en bases de datos

Se describen las características de 207 revistas españolas de ciencias de la salud activas en 2014 y su visibilidad en seis bases de datos biomédicas y multidisciplinares. Scopus e Ibecs son las bases de datos que mayor número de revistas cubren, y Medline y WoS las que menos. La disciplina mejor representada es medicina, seguida de psicología, enfermería y farmacia. Se observa la práctica ausencia de revistas editadas exclusivamente en papel, la existencia de revistas publicadas en inglés, el aumento de versiones bilingües español-inglés y el acceso gratuito a los contenidos. Methods We checked a freely accessible online and constantly updated version of the Beall lists of potential predatory publishers/journals in the field of CCM. AbstractThe paper analyzes publishers’ copyright policies and self-archiving conditions of Spanish scientific journals. Data are extracted from the directory DULCINEA that contains information of 1318 Spanish journals, of which 775 (61%) allow some form of self-archiving to be about 60% of the post-print version and allowing them 87% of the deposit of the version of record. In this work, three different bio-polymers, i.e. a commercial starch-based polymer (Mater-Bi®) a bio-polyester (PLA), and a bio-polyether (PEO) were additivated with quercetin, a natural flavonoid antioxidants, in order to formulate biobased films for eco-sustainable packaging and outdoor applications. The photo-oxidation behavior of unstabilized and quercetin stabilized films has been evaluated and compared with that of films additivated with a commercial synthetic light stabilizer.
